We had the first Weekly Final 2009. The players started with 5000 each. 1500 chip upgrade in total. That’s 26 500 chips on the table. So Patrice, Paul and Vilnis started with 5000. Marc 5500 and Pim with 6500.
The sun went down, the tension increased. Blinds started 20/40 and Vilnis started very aggressive in the game. But the others didn’t take part. So far. So he just kept on stealing the blinds. Then finally Pim woke up and played raising pre flop 120 and Vilnis called. The flop showed 9/5/9. Vilnis bet 200 and Pim called. On the turn 6 , Vilnis bet 400 and again, Pim called. This time, on the river 8 Pim raised 1200 and Vilnis took the bate and called with Q/8. But Pim smashed him with his pocket 7 hitting the straight!
Blinds 40/80 and still Vilnis was pushing going all in pre flop. And Patrice time had come calling him with pocket A against Vilnis K/J. Already on the flop 5/A/2 Patrice hit the triple. Turn and river 4/8 didn’t redeem Vilnis. What a early final goodbye for the Latvian youngster. And Patrice kept on playing dizzying aggressive.
After a small BBQ break, the game went on. Now here is an intermediate result: Marc 4170, Paul 6110, Pim 6190 and chipleader Patrice 10030. Meanwhile blinds were 100/200. On the Button, Marc went all in with 4070. Pim called with A/K vs Ad/10d! We got 5/4/6 on the flop. 2 on the turn and finally on the river: K. Marc was kicked from the table!
Next decision didn’t wait long. Pim called the blind, but Patrice raised all in – and Pim now was in real trouble thinking quite a while… in the end, he called! So showdown guys! Patrice with 8/Q and Pim with 10/10 in his hand. The flop showed K/9/2. J on the turn and 7 on the river. The former chipleader Patrice got kicked!
Heads up between Paul (11600) and Pim (14900). Blinds were 150/300 with 17 minutes to go in this level. We had some raise races, saw a few flops. But not more. Till break even after a while. Then Pim raised 750 on the button. Paul called. 6/7/10, both checked the flop. On the turn 9, Paul raised 750 and Pim called. Down the river we go: 6. Paul raised 2000 and Pim called! Paul hit the straight with J/8 in his hand.
Blinds 300/600 and Paul raised 1600 on the small blind. Pim (12000) reraised all in and Paul (14500) called with pocket 6 against Pim’s crabs (3/3). The board showed 10/5/8/8/J and finally we had a winner! Congratulations Paul! See you in July again!

It was the first Weekly Final of PokerIsland Season 09. And we have our first finalist for the big online final end of July: Congratulations Paul! He really needed a lot of patience, strong nerves and the unbreakable will to win. In the end, Paul made the race. But it was a long hard road.
The week is almost over. And we have to say goodbye to five awesome guys. We had a great time together, a lot of fun and some serious poker.
So stay tuned for the whole poker final story coming up!

3rd Morning Poker of week
1. And today we played it old school PokerIsland style. Let’s have a short look
at the rules: 60 minutes tournament, chipleader after exactly 60
minutes wins upgrade for Friday’s final (500 chips).
Blinds 10/20. Paul seemed to have recovered from yesterday compared to others.
He started quite aggressive. He stole some blinds and pots but no real action took
place. It was a very tight game. So let’s skip level 20/40 and 30/60.
Blinds were 50/100 and Vilnis got better and better. It seemed that a tiny
hangover made him stronger. Finally we had a mentionable hand – and a first
early decision. Marc pre flop reraised all in with K/Q called by Patrice with
pocket 3. The flop showed 7/J/9 – on the turn we had a 4. And on the river,
another 4. Again an early out for the Canadian. He might save his luck for the
final. Let’s hope for him.
By now Pim and Paul started their private battle. Pim went all in pre flop
with pocket 10 and got called by Paul with 8/A. The flop Q/J/2 didn’t help
Paul. On the turn 8, at least he hit the under pair – but the river 4 sealed his fate.
Nice double up for Pim and Paul was still alive. Till a few hands later he went
all in pre flop with 620 chips left. Blinds were at 100/200. And Pim called
with K/7 against Paul’s Jackson Five (Jd/5d). The board showed A/10/6/4/3 and
Paul left the table.
Blinds at 200/400. Time ran out and Vilnis had to make a move
to keep his chance to win today. So he took heart and went all in with A/J.
Patrice called with Q/J. Let’s see what’s on the board. The flop: 7/2/3.
Turn: 2. Still Vilnis was up in front. But believe it or not, on the river the
queen showed up. Again, Vilnis with no luck today. And another Goodbye for the
Latvian.
Heads up between Patrice and Pim. Blinds at 300/600. Patrice
was Chipleader by far with 9220 chips and Pim with 5780 left to play. So close
before the end, Patrice probably could have folded it down to victory. But hats
off. He played – Pim went all in. And Patrice called. Showdown guys! Pim with
J/A and Patrice with 9/K suited of diamonds. Now the flop K/7/10. Patrice was
celebrating big time! Till turn and river: A/2. Again, the Dutch guy made the
race! Doubled up and folded down the last hands to victory.
